Off Highway Vehicles

“It is the mission of the Off-Highway Vehicle Safety Board to carry out its duties established by the Off-Highway Vehicle Safety Act of 2006. The purposes of the Board are:

  • To develop and enhance statewide off-highway vehicle recreation opportunities for the citizens and tourist of New Mexico, consistent with the protection of natural and cultural resource values for present and future generations.
  • To establish OHV safety equipment standards.
  • To certify OHV tour guides.
  • To create maintain a statewide training and certification program with its primary responsibilities to promote responsible use and safe operation of OHV’s in order to reduce the incidents of injuries and deaths.
  • To develop criteria, review grant applications, promote public input and interagency cooperation to provide meaningful recommendations to the Tourism Department in establishing, restoring, or closing OHV areas or trails and funding OHV projects throughout New Mexico.
  • To enhance public awareness and enforcement of the OHV laws in the state of New Mexico.
