Pie Town
Pie Town is an unincorporated town on U.S. Route 60 in Catron County, New Mexico, United States. Its name comes from a dried-apple pie business that was established by Clyde Norman in the early 1920's. Pie Town hosts a Pie Festival each September.
The town and its people were extensively photographed by Russell Lee, a photographer for the Farm Security Administration, in 1940. Pie Town, Lee's photos, and local restaurant "The Daily Pie Cafe", were the subject of an article in the Smithsonian Magazine in February 2005.
Pie Town is close enough to Albuquerque but far enough away to find peace and quiet in an icreasingly dangerous, noisy and fast paced world.
Being on the great divide, Pie Town is visited by a myriad of hikers and bikers from around the world traveling the divide from Mexico to Canada.
At nearly 8000'above sea level this western town has a Post Office, The Wood Hue Galleria, A VLA (Very Large Array radio telescope), The Lightning Field, and "Lester Jackson Park" which hosts the Pie Town Festival in early September.
Life out here is a step back in the past where neighbors look out for one another and would not drive past without waving.
