New Mexico—an International Destination
New Mexico is a state in the southwestern region of the United States of America, bordered by Colorado, Texas, Arizona, Oklahoma, and the country of Mexico. New Mexico has been inhabited by Native American populations and has, in turn, been part of the Imperial Spanish viceroyalty of New Spain, the country of Mexico and a United States territory. Among U.S. states, New Mexico has simultaneously the highest percentage of Hispanic Americans (comprised of both recent immigrants and descendants of Spanish colonists) and the second-highest percentage of Native Americans after Alaska (mostly Navajo and Pueblo peoples) in our population. Mix in the Anglo-Americans who moved west inthe 1800s and the result is a culture unique in its strong tri-cultural population. Here in New Mexico, there is a wide variety of cultural and lifestyle activities unparalleled by other states. The state's terrain ranges from high desert to verdant bosque to snowy mountains. When you come to New Mexico you will find a place that truly matches our state motto The Land of Enchantment.
