San Gregorio de Abó Mission

San Gregorio de Abó Mission

Central region of New MexicoEstablished in 1622, the church and convento were extensively rebuilt in the 1640s. A second renovation of the convento was undertaken in the 1650s.

Today's mission is approximately 70 percent original. The walls of the buttressed church are 40-feet high. Conventos of Abó & Quarai are similar and unlike any others in the southwest. The mission is part of the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument.
