San Ildefonso Mission

North central of New MexicoThe mission at San Ildefonso became the center of Franciscan activity in the north when first built. The church was burned down in 1696, and then rebuilt later by the Spanish. The new church remained practically unaltered until several years ago, when several substantial alterations were made.

San Ildefonso Pueblo is most famous for the black-on-black pottery that made it the center of the Pueblo Arts revival in the early 1900s. The feast day, January 23, features the Animal Dance at dawn.
