New Mexico Tourism Department
Unveils Redesigned Web Site
On March 19, 2008, the New Mexico Tourism Department unveiled a redesigned portal into the real Land of Enchantment, www.newmexico.org – already one of the most visited New Mexico tourism-related web sites on the planet.
From its fabulous art, far-out recreation and memorable cuisine to its modern shopping, unique festivals, state-of-the art casinos and host of cultural activities, New Mexico offers an incredible escape. Against the backdrop of a landscape rich with vibrant contrasts, sun washed canyons and deep blue and fire-hued skies, New Mexico’s activities, both indoors and out, are as varied as the state’s visitors.
“The purpose of the redesign is twofold,” said Michael Cerletti, Secretary of the New Mexico Tourism Department: “To make it as easy as possible to let your fingers do the walking; and to get you as excited about New Mexico as we are.”
The redesign of newmexico.org will make it much easier for New Mexico’s potential visitors to find the information they want. In fact, 95 percent of the content sought is found within three clicks or less.
More importantly, however, is that the new look will increase the awareness and excitement of New Mexico by letting people know what is unique about New Mexico: its culture, history, year-round recreational opportunities, world-famous art …the list is endless.
In addition, the site offers much-improved search capabilities, business listings and links, an easy-access events calendar and maps, maps and more maps – one of the most-used features of any travel-related web site.
The site also gives New Mexico’s tourism-related businesses a unique opportunity to connect with travelers researching the state. Lodging, restaurants, attractions, and shops are just a few of the types of business that will find a home on the site; and its easy navigational features will help future visitors find businesses quickly. New business listing software is being used, so businesses currently on www.newmexico.org will need to re-register and re-submit their listings beginning March 20, 2008. Click on “New Mexico Links” and “Add Your Listing.” There is no cost associated with a basic business listing. All businesses will be responsible for entering and editing their listing.
“The result is a convenient and enormously entertaining way to explore the Land of Enchantment and preplan your trip to the real New Mexico,” Secretary Cerletti said. “So, before you load up the SUV and set out in search of the hidden New Mexico, take a stroll through newmexico.org. It will be a memorable trip - and it won’t cost you a cent.”
